30 years ago this month.....

Waycross cablecast it's first program 30 years ago this month - December 20, 1982 to be exact. That program was one we still do today: the annual Forest Park Tree Lighting.

Since then, we have cablecast 39,317 new, locally produced programs for our communities - with the help of over 2300 volunteers.

We have also trained approximately 2600 residents to use production equipment. Why approximately? Because when we started, the personal computer was just being invented - and everything was kept on paper. Although we have tried to enter all the people who have volunteered or taken classes over the years, no doubt some names from the early days were missed. We actually did not get our first computer - a Mac Plus - until about 1987, and did not start keeping digital records until the early 90's.

Now, almost everything we do requires the use of a computer - from office functions to recording, editing and playback of our programming. Thinking back to where we started - 3/4" videotape that held 20 minutes of video, VCR's and a "portable" production unit that consisted of a camera and a seperate 25 pound recorder - we have come a long way.

We are proud of the accomplishments of our volunteers, producers, and staff, and look forward to serving our communities for many years to come.
